Monsters Who Fledged
Morwan

Morwan

Morwan is the soul monster of Katherine Leipper, the designer of our website! Katherine just returned to LA for her last year of school at Cal Arts. Morwan, who has decided Katherine is the epitome of "cool," went with her. Morwan is very sure that she is going to love LA. Morwan is also very sure that LA will love her right back.

Mahal and Madog

Mahal and Madog

Mahal and Madog are a sock monster couple that was created for a human couple, Matt and Jhessa. Matt and Jhessa live in Seattle and travel frequently to Peru. Mahal and Madog love coffee and they also love to travel, so it is a perfect match. Mahal recently wrote me that she and Madog are as in love with Matt and Jhessa as they are with each other. And that's saying a lot, since Mahal is a Love Monster!

Marcela

Marcela

Marcela is a very special unicorn that was made for a very special woman named Mary, who lives in New York and works in fashion. Mary also makes beautiful jewelry and Marcela is so in awe of Mary, she is hoping that Mary will teach her how to make beautiful things, too! Marcela also loves Central Park and the french fries at the Shake Shack.

Masciela

Masciela

Masciela is another very special unicorn made for a very special woman named Mags MacKean! Mags is currently living in Peru where she is working at a shamanic healing center in the Amazon. Masciela recently wrote to tell me that Mags is her hero and that the Amazon is the most amazing place on earth. She also told me she just finished reading Mags' book about mountain climbing, Meetings on the Edge, and it is her favorite book of all time. She thinks everyone else should read it, too!

Macario

Macario

Macario was made especially for Hamilton Souther, a Master Shaman in the Peruvian Amazon. Hamilton owns and runs a shamanic healing center named Blue Morpho Tours (www.bluemorphotours.com). Macario wrote me recently that he thinks Hamilton is Rock and Roll and Disco Balls all rolled into one. (Just as a point of reference, Macario thinks Rock and Roll and Disco Balls are the most awesomest things on earth.) Macario has also discovered singing bowls and is obsessed with learning to play them.

Maemi

Maemi

Maemi was made for Anne O'Neil, the amazing and beautiful woman who owns the store Tiburon, the Red Hook Souvenir Store, (www.tiburonbrooklyn.com) where the very first sock monsters were sold! Maemi loves Red Hook because it is right on the water and Maemi loves the water, because whales live there. But more than anything in the world, Maemi loves Anne, because Anne is willing to let Maemi have chocolate cake for breakfast and wear the same oufit every day. For Maemi, Anne is sock monster heaven.

Marlow

Marlow

Marlow is a show pony from Pennsylvania, but don't let his extreme good looks put you off -- he is also one of the friendliest sock ponies this side of the Mississippi. He likes nothing more than hanging out at the ice cream stand after dark on a hot summer night, hitting on the fillies and speculating on the coming day's weather with the old timers. Marlow was purchased by a mysterious stranger in Brooklyn, who promised to take Marlow to live with his mother and sister. Marlow thinks that is the neatest thing ever. He LOVES mothers and sisters.

Mostyn

Mostyn

Mostyn was born in a small town in England, where there are 5,000 different types of moss. Mostyn dreams of being a professional dancer. She hopes someday to dance the role of the Sock Princess in the famous ballet, Sock Lake, at the International Sock Ballet Academy. Mostyn was purchased by a mysterious stranger in Brooklyn, who swept her away to live with his mother and sister. Mostyn thinks that is utterly romantic.

Muna

Muna

Muna was born on a bright sunny day in the middle of August. This is why she likes stars so much. Muna always wishes on every star she sees. This keeps her very, very busy at night. Muna's favorite movie is La Dolce Vita, because of the scene in the fountain. Muna really likes to swim. Muna is currently off looking for fountains with a mysterious stranger who wanted to introduce her to his mother and sister. Muna hopes they like swimming in fountains, too!

Mimir

Mimir

Mimir was raised by a family of professional tortoise tamers who worked in the circus. He started working for the circus at the age of 8, riding unicycles across the backs of the most vicious tortoises, to the crowds' delight. Mimir currently drives a taxi in New York, but what he really wants to do is DANCE! Mimir's most recent adventure was to accompany some of his friends on a journey to meet a mysterious stranger's mother and sister. We are sure that is not the last we will hear of Mimir!

McKale

McKale

McKale is especially fond of the Ramble in Central Park. In his opinion, that's where you can find the tastiest sticks. McKale likes nothing more than to get a juicy stick in the Ramble and then retire to one of his favorite sitting rocks and work on a sand painting while reciting Sonnet 94. McKale was last seen with a mysterious stranger in Brooklyn who was cooing sweet rhymes into his ear. (There are a lot of mysterious strangers in Brooklyn. This is why the monsters like it there so much!)

Magee

Magee

Magee was created especially for Jen Close for her birthday! Magee is actually pretty shy around cameras (which, frankly, is unusual for a sock monster) but Magee loves Jen so much, he was willing to pose for her birthday with a very special message balloon. Jen is Magee's true love and he has been busy composing love poetry for her, in honor of the fact that Jen is a fantastically talented writer. We have no idea if Magee's poetry is any good, as so far he has chosen not to share it. We'll let you know if that changes!

Megan

Megan

Megan was another custom creation for a very special little lady living down in Peru. Her cousin, Johnny, was so taken with the sock monsters he had met, he had us make Megan! Among Megan's many favorite things are hummingbirds and eating birthday cake.
